A Memoir of China’s Reawakening with Author Dori Jones Yang
Seattle Branch AAUW October 20, 2021

We had an very informative October Program on China for our first in-person meeting this year.
Award-winning author and journalist, Dori Jones Yang, gave us a first-person account of her life in China and Hong Kong as a Business Week Bureau Manager in the 1980’s. Fluent in Mandarin, Yang was able to provide a unique perspective on China and its people during this pivotal time in Chinese history. She talked about the challenges of being the first woman correspondent and Bureau Manager for Business Week while also meeting her husband and having a child.
Yang is author of several books, including When the Red Gates Opened: A Memoir of China’s Reawakening. Information on her other books.
Our members were delighted to meet again in person. We were fortunate to have a large room where everyone could stay at their chosen social distance. This picture was taken outside before masks were required. We had over 35 people attending and it was a beautiful day.
