Weter Photos 1920s-1940

Weter was an avid hiker, traveler and photographer starting at an early age. The 1920s pictures are from an old scrapbook.

The black and white photos from her hikes were very well labeled, which was impressive. Some listed the time and the F stops so she must have taken detailed notes. The descriptions also show a sense of humor which I hope is apparent in the various picture labels.

In 1932 Weter made a European Trip. She went to Greece on her own and then her brother, James, joined her for travels through Italy, Turkey, Swizatland, Germany, England and back to the US.

She went on many hikes in the 1930s with James Havinghurst, Juanita Demmer, James Weter, and Lurline Simpson. Their hike to Pinnacle Peak is featured in the slide show. It seems Winifred often hiked with her brother James who, unfortunately, died in a tragic car accident while attending Stanford: James Birdsell Weter – Born Feb 1, 1915 – Died April 19, 1937

She took several trips across the US with famiy and a few of those pictures are included.

In the later 1930s she hiked with Lurline Simpson, Virginia Olmsted and Pamela Olmsted.
