Advancing Equity for Woman and Girls Through Advocacy, Education, and Research

Review of October Meeting - The Future of Education with Auditi Chakravarty

Auditi Chakravarty, a nationally recognized education leader, argued that education is both an economic and civic imperative, affecting everything from earnings and health to the strength of communities.

Drawing on research about long-term success, she highlighted four key conditions for learning: belonging, agency, learner variability, and meaningful connections. Students learn best when they feel they belong, have ownership over their learning, are recognized for their unique strengths, and can connect learning to real-world experiences. She also emphasized the need to move beyond the traditional “assembly line” model of schooling toward more personalized, hands-on learning environments.

She shared concerns about declining literacy, math achievement, mental health, and social-emotional skills, while noting that opportunities such as AP, IB, dual-enrollment, and career pathways have expanded. Although college completion rates remain a challenge, she stressed that education continues to provide significant benefits and that students need better guidance about postsecondary and career choices, particularly women and first-generation college students.

As AI transforms the workforce, she believes curiosity, critical thinking, ethics, and lifelong learning will become even more important. Her closing message focused on three actions: advocate for equitable education, open doors for young people, and model a learning mindset, because education remains one of the best investments we can make.
